What you eat before a workout fuels your exercise—and what you eat after a workout is just as important!.

Part of what helps me get through a workout is knowing that I have a reward waiting for me at the finish line. Sometimes after my Yoga or Barre class, I reward myself with a post-workout snack. Since food is an incentive for me to push myself more when I am in class, it has to be something that feels like a treat and not just something basic such as a banana or peanut butter which can be really mundane after some time.

If you are looking to indulge but want the healthier option, All The Batter may be just what you need! For some of you, you might be thinking,  “Dessert immediately after a workout, doesn’t that kind of defeat the point?” then allow me to explain. In these wellness-packed modern days, you can find a ton of food and dessert that is actually pretty good for you. Sweetened with things like fruit rather than refined sugars, and packed with high-protein, high-fibre Natural food, they actually have the nutrients you need to refuel when you’re done the sweating.

Without further ado, let’s check out All The Batter, a unique cafe that is Avocado theme!

Jal Yoga: What’s the concept of your cafe?

All The Batter: All The Batter – Avocado & Natural Foods is Singapore’s First Avocado Café specialising in Avocado drinks, cakes, desserts, foods and catering. With the mission of ‘Making Lives All The Batter’, we pride ourselves in bringing you the most natural taste of Avocados in both sweet and savoury foods that are enjoyable for all ages!

Jal Yoga: I see that Avocado is one of the main ingredients used in your menu. Why Avocado, when there are many fruit options available out there?

All The Batter: We love Avocados and it’s a superfruit packed full of nutrients! However, not many Singaporeans understand the fruit well enough to incorporate it into their daily diet. So we wanted to ‘Make Lives All The Batter’ by providing many different ways of consuming the fruit enjoyably!

Jal Yoga: What drive you to come up with food that caters to different dietary options and what are the difficulties faced?

All The Batter: There are increasingly more customers coming forth to request for cakes and foods that can cater to different dietary requirements, such as low Glycemic Index (GI), Vegan, or Gluten-free options. Our team has to experiment and tweak our recipes accordingly to address such needs.

Jal Yoga: Can you share more about Low Gi Sugar for those who don’t know what it is?

All The Batter: Glycemic Index (GI) is a relative ranking of carbohydrate in foods according to how they affect blood sugar levels. Foods with a low-GI value, are the preferred choice, as they are slowly digested and absorbed, causing a slower and smaller rise in blood sugar levels. For our Avocado Cakes, we do have selections that use organic low GI sugar.

Jal Yoga: What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about Natural Food?

All The Batter: Some may think that foods in their natural forms are not as tasty, which is definitely not true! The natural taste of foods can be brought out splendidly with the right pairings!

Jal Yoga: Based on your opinion, what and when should we eat before a workout?

All The Batter: A complete pre-workout meal should be eaten a good 2 to 3 hours before the workout, and you can consume foods like wholegrain or multigrain bread with some lean protein, good fats, and vegetables. The sooner you eat before your workout, the smaller and simpler the meal should be. If you only have less than an hour before your workout, it would be better to go lighter with granola with yogurt or healthy nut mix that can be more easily digested.

Jal Yoga: What are some of the good food choices to eat after a workout?

All The Batter: For post-workout, it would be good to consume foods that can be easily digested for faster absorption of nutrients and recovery. Whole grains, lean proteins, eggs, natural smoothies, and of course good and healthy fats like AVOCADOs are the best among all the choices. Thankfully, we offer all of these at our Avocado Café and you could get your post-workout fix with our wide range of Avocado Smash Toasts and Avocado smoothies!

If you were to pick, what are the three must-try dishes for our Jal Members?

All The Batter: Be sure to try our Avocado Nutty Galore Smoothie drink, Beech Wood Smoked Salmon Smash Toast and The Avocado Dessert Platter!
