Compared to dynamic forms of Yoga practices, Yin Yoga is a passive yoga practice where postures are mainly practiced sitting and lying down. Yin Yoga targets the deep connective tissues of the body unlike the yang or dynamic forms of yoga. It encourages deep stretching and relaxation with poses held for three to five minutes. During this period, the tissues get to soften and any in-depth tensions are released while students get to rest their minds in a meditative state. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (Yang) styles of Yoga that emphasise internal heat and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles.
