Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with asanas, or postures, that are held for longer periods of time.

This enables the practitioner, or yogi, to open the body parts (muscles and joints) for deeper healing and invigoration.

For beginners, a Yin Yoga pose can be held from 45 seconds to two minutes. For seasoned Yin Yoga practitioners, one pose may be held for as long as five minutes!

What is the age requirement to be a Yin Yoga trainer?

Yin Yoga is widely practiced, and there are many students of Yin Yoga who, later on, train to become a Yin Yoga trainer.

While there is no strict regulation as to the age of a Yin Yoga trainer, most start learning Yin Yoga at age 18.

Some begin at age 25, which enables them to avail of the $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government for a wide range of approved skills-related courses, including Yin Yoga.

After completing a 200-hour yoga instructor course, students can become a yoga teacher.

It is important for the new Yin Yoga trainer to register with the Yoga Alliance.

To be registered with the Yoga Alliance a new trainer must learn practical techniques as a yoga teacher and observe ethics for the yoga teacher.

This is aside from completing course modules that teach the theory of Yin Yoga, including scriptural definitions, yoga concepts, meditation, and breathing practices, among others.

How to select the best Yin Yoga workshop?

If you are looking for a Yin Yoga workshop, the internet can offer many options. Check for the length of experience of the trainers, and the philosophy the yoga workshop operates by.

Many Yin Yoga teachers not only teach the techniques, instead, they bring their students to a unique sense of empowerment.

Through meditation, pranayama, and asana, Yin Yoga trainers hope to leave students feeling refreshed and renewed with each class.

They facilitate physical, mental and spiritual exertion in their class by teaching the asanas or poses in a way that provokes careful planning and energy reading, combining yoga expertise with uplifting music, in a conducive learning space.

How long is the course for?

There are several options for a Yin Yoga course duration. One course can be taught for 10 hours, another for 50 hours.

The longest duration for a Yin Yoga course is taught for 200 hours over the course of 6 months.

A Yin Yoga workshop can be open from the morning, usually at 9 am, until evening at around 10pm.

What are the course fees?

The fees vary depending on the duration of the course you have chosen.

For a full 200 hours course, fees can range from $2399 + registration. For a 10-hour workshop, the usual fees will be from $300 + registration.

A 50-hour course can have fees from $900 + registration. Registration fees also vary depending on the duration of the course.

The shorter the course, the lower the registration fee.

How long is my certification valid for?

A certification for yoga trainers can be valid for life, for as long as you abide by the code of conduct and the set of rules implemented by the Yoga Alliance.

You should also pay your annual fees to maintain your registered yoga trainer status.

Finally, the Yoga Alliance also requires continuing education of at least 45 hours of teaching and 30 hours of training every three years.

Can I use my skill futures credits?

Yes, you can use your SkillFutures credits to a yoga trainer course.
