10D9N Bhutan Yoga & Cultural Retreat

Ten unhurried days with nowhere to rush, high among the valleys and pine forests of Bhutan. Restorative Yoga, heritage lodges, and quiet monastery views, until your body remembers how to rest.

The mountain reset

Bhutan is in no hurry, and after a few days, neither are you.

The country moves to something slower than the rest of the world. Cool mountain air, pine forest, long quiet afternoons. Over ten days you’ll travel through four valleys, each with its own feel, from the pine ridges above Thimphu to the cliff where Tiger’s Nest clings to the rock.

There’s Yoga most mornings, old temples, warm food, and nights in timber lodges tucked into the hills. Nothing rushed. Just enough time, in a place that finally gives you some.

Here’s the shape of it, valley by valley.

Bhutan Yoga and Cultural Retreat Day 1 and 2

Days 1-2: Thimphu

Our journey begins gently, in Bhutan’s quiet mountain capital. Thimphu sits high among steep pine ridges, the air already thinner, the pace already slower.

We let the altitude settle before anything else. A hillside monastery hike opens the valley out below us, and gentle Yoga and breathwork ease the body into the thinner air.

In the evening, masked dancers and traditional music, one of Bhutan’s oldest living art forms, performed up close. A gentle start. Already a full one.

Days 3-4: Phobjikha

We’ll travel high over Dochula Pass and down into Phobjikha, a wide glacial valley that feels suspended in time. This is the quietest stretch of the journey, and the valley sets the pace.

Our days move slowly here. We’ll walk the Gangtey Nature Trail through open meadows and pine, stop at the historic Gangtey Monastery that watches over the valley, and share a long picnic in the open air. As evening falls, we gather by the fire for restorative Yoga and meditation.

Few places on earth are this still, and you feel it the moment you arrive.

Bhutan Yoga and Cultural Retreat Day 5 and 6

Days 5-6: Punakha

We’ll drop to lower ground, into Bhutan’s fertile heart. Punakha is a warm valley of terraced rice fields and rivers that run a milky turquoise, gentler and greener than the high country behind us.

With the altitude behind us, the practice lifts. Mornings open with an energising flow, and the days fill out from there. We’ll cross the valley on long suspension bridges, stand before the majestic Punakha Dzong where two rivers meet, visit a local village, and sit down to a slow lunch of organic food grown on the farm.

This is the warm middle of the journey, and it restores you.

Days 7-8: Paro

Our final valley is the one Bhutan is best known for. Paro spreads out in willow-lined fields and old farmhouses, watched over by temples that have stood for centuries.

Here the journey builds to its height. We’ll steady ourselves with breathwork in a monastery courtyard, then make the climb everyone comes to Bhutan for: the long walk up to Tiger’s Nest, the monastery that clings to a sheer cliff high above the valley. Along the way we’ll visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the country, dating back over thirteen centuries.

When the walking is done, we rest. A traditional herbal hot-stone bath eases the body, and the last days leave you lighter than you arrived.

A note from your guide, Devayani

“Bhutan changes how you move. Up here, the body doesn’t want to push or perform, it wants to slow down and take in the sheer scale of these valleys.

So that’s how I’ll teach. Not pushing you harder, but giving you the quiet, the breath and the space to actually be here. My job is simply to hold each day steady, so you come home from Bhutan restored, not worn out.

I’ve led retreats to Ladakh and Kerala before. I can’t wait to share this one with you.”
